First Presbyterian Church of Britton is led by a clergy couple, co-pastors, Rev. Cheryl Lynn Khyllep and Rev. Bala Khyllep.
Rev. Cheryl Lynn Khyllep is originally from Ohio. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University in Fine Arts. She participated in City Year New York 2006-07. In the Fall of 2007 Cheryl traveled to India to visit family that are medical missionaries. It was while she was in India that she met Bala. She got her Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in 2011. She served Arch Street Presbyterian Church and Broad Street Ministry in Philadelphia as a pastoral associate. She then went on to serve as a Christian Educator at her home church of First Presbyterian Church of Wooster Ohio. She was ordained and installed as co-pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Britton in January 2014. Cheryl also works in graphic design and enjoys dancing, running, and being outdoors.
Rev. Bala Khyllep was born and raised in Meghalaya, one of the Northeastern states of India. Bala received his Bachelors in Science with honors in botany from Shillong College, India. After teaching Jr. High math and science for a year, Bala went on to seminary at Serampore University just outside of Kolkata (aka Calcutta) India. While doing field education at a Christian Hospital in central India, he met Cheryl. After graduating from seminary in 2009, Bala returned to the classroom teaching science and math. In 2010 he moved to the United States just three days before his wedding. Bala went on to receive a Master of Theology from Princeton Theological Seminary with a concentration in Homiletics. Bala served with Cheryl as a Christian Educator in Wooster and was thrilled for the opportunity to serve with his wife at First Presbyterian Church of Britton. He was ordained and installed into this position in the same service with Cheryl in 2014. Bala teaches Zumba in Britton 2 days a week, and enjoys photography, listening to music and working out.
